MyMatrixx Wellness 360: Treating More Than the Injury

September 1, 2026 - WorkCompWire

Kimberly Di Scala, Pharm.D., Product Development Senior Advisor, MyMatrixx by Evernorth
Sarah Randolph, Pharm.D., Product Development Senior Advisor, MyMatrixx by Evernorth

Discala Randolph myMatrixxFor decades, the workers’ compensation industry has focused on the injury. The broken leg. The strained back. The concussion. Common injury types that often have a common treatment plan. Except, we now know that the injury is only part of the story. A patient’s general health, comorbid conditions, age, lifestyle, behavioral health challenges, and social determinants of health can all affect how they respond to treatment, regain function, and recover. Unaddressed barriers in these areas may extend claim duration and increase overall claim costs.

As a result, MyMatrixx by Evernorth® started to think beyond the injury, by creating a series of solutions to care for a person as they come to us – injury, illness, and all. We call this Wellness 360.

A Comprehensive Approach to Recovery

Research shows that factors such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, behavioral health conditions, chronic pain, substance use disorders, and smoking can complicate treatment and prolong recovery. Wellness 360 is a comprehensive whole-person health program designed to coordinate the appropriate resources to address these physical, behavioral, and lifestyle factors.

“We have a real opportunity to make a difference in the health and recovery of a patient,” said Kimberly
Di Scala, Pharm.D., Product Development Senior Advisor at MyMatrixx by Evernorth.

The MyMatrixx Wellness 360 solution includes coordinated clinical support, and early intervention, with health coaching serving as the central connection point across a patient’s recovery journey. This ensures the patient not only has access to the right resources for their needs but also makes sure they are an active part of their treatment plan.

“We are putting the patient at the center of their care, which will improve treatment adherence, build resilience, and boost overall health and recovery outcomes,” Di Scala continued.

The Foundation of Wellness 360

The foundation of the Wellness 360 Program is asking the right questions.

“As a workers’ comp pharmacy benefit manager, MyMatrixx helps to manage the utilization and costs of injury-related medications,” said Sarah Randolph, Pharm.D., Product Development Senior Advisor at MyMatrixx by Evernorth. “With this information, our claim analytics help us identify patients that may benefit from the Wellness 360 program and then, by asking the right questions, our health coaches work with patients to determine what additional services may be needed to improve their overall health while also managing costs,” Randolph explained.

Questions such as: How well controlled is your diabetes? Are you a smoker? Do you need assistance at home? How are you taking your medications? Can you walk without support? How is your diet? How is your mood? Do you have transportation to medical care? How is your weight? What is your pain level?

“These are questions that may not be asked by the doctor managing their injury treatment, but this is information that helps our health coaches understand a patient’s unique potential barriers to recovery, so we can connect them with personalized solutions to meet their needs,” added Randolph.

Personalized Solutions for a Variety of Patient Needs

The MyMatrixx Wellness 360 Program brings together a growing portfolio of solutions designed to work together in support of whole person health. The idea of the program is not to connect every patient to every solution but to connect the right solutions to the right patients creating a personalized treatment plan while also controlling costs.

“As we launch the Wellness 360 Program, MyMatrixx will begin with health coaching and solutions to help patients dealing with metabolic disease such as diabetes and obesity, patients with behavioral health conditions, and those dealing with chronic pain and opioid use,” explained Di Scala.

Weight Loss, GLP-1, and Diabetic Management
According to the Americal Heart Association, up to 53% of new type 2 diabetes cases link to obesity1
. These comorbid conditions can impact a patient’s recovery and the trajectory and cost of a claim. For patients managing diabetes and or their weight, or have been prescribed GLP-1 medications, our Wellness 360 solution provides personalized support that extends beyond medication management. Through health coaching and digital content, patients receive access to lifestyle education, care navigation, glucose monitoring, peer support, and weight management resources. These tools help patients develop healthier habits, improve disease management, and stay engaged in their care.

Complete Opioid Management
Opioid utilization continues to be a significant concern in workers’ compensation. In the United States, it is estimated that health care costs and lost productivity from the opioid epidemic cause employers a loss of $81 billion per year.2 The MyMatrixx Complete Opioid Management program is designed to reduce opioid utilization, improve patient safety, and facilitate recovery through a comprehensive intervention strategy. The program combines pharmacist counseling, provider outreach, medication reviews, substance abuse support, educational communications, and drug screening to help ensure appropriate and effective pain management.

Behavioral Health & Recovery Support
Nearly one in three people with a long-term physical health condition also has a mental health problem – often depression or anxiety3 and these conditions can significantly influence a patient’s recovery experience. Wellness 360 addresses the psychological challenges often associated with injury, chronic pain, and substance use disorders through health coaching, therapist engagement, educational resources, structured treatment plans, and around-the-clock support. By addressing behavioral health needs early, the support provided through MyMatrixx can help patients build coping skills, improve resilience, and remain focused on recovery.

Expanding to Address Broader Health Needs

“As we expand the Wellness 360 Program, MyMatrixx will address the broader health needs of our patient population with solutions that support physical recovery, emotional well-being, engagement, and long-term health,” said Randolph.

Musculoskeletal and Migraine Solution
Musculoskeletal injuries and migraines are among the most common ailments in workers’ compensation claims. Musculoskeletal injuries are often associated with injuries related to pinched nerves, carpal or tarsal tunnel syndrome, and other connective tissue disorders, resulting from overexertion or bodily reaction.4 In workers’ compensation claims, migraines usually present following a traumatic brain injury, post-concussion disorders and injuries involving the head, neck, and shoulders. Both injury types can drive lost productivity due to absenteeism, turnover, and higher workers’ compensation spend. Our Wellness 360 solution delivers a comprehensive, technology-enabled approach for these conditions that combines virtual physical therapy, health coaching, and personalized support to improve outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. The goal is to help patients return to activity safely and confidently.

Cardiovascular Support
Managing high blood pressure and cardiovascular risk factors is a key component of whole-person health. Hypertension can slow injury recovery by impairing circulation, oxygen delivery, and inflammation control. Cardiovascular risks can impact endurance and pain tolerance, which can slow rehabilitation and healing. Participants in the MyMatrixx Cardiovascular Support program receive a blood pressure monitor, education, coaching, and access to peer support resources that encourage healthier lifestyle choices and improve self-management skills.

Smoking Cessation
Smoking can significantly impair healing by reducing blood flow, limiting oxygen delivery to tissues, and increasing inflammation. The beneficial health changes of quitting smoking are almost immediate with a drop in heart rate and blood pressure within just 20 minutes of stopping.5 The Wellness 360 Smoking Cessation program provides education and support to help patients quit their habit and take a step toward better health.

Women’s Health Support
Women experience unique healthcare challenges that are frequently underdiagnosed or overlooked, including differences in pain perception, diagnosis, and medication response. Menopause can also slow injury recovery due to hormonal changes that reduce bone density, impair tendon repair, and alter muscle and joint function.6 Our Woman’s Wellness 360 solution includes support focused on these health issues helping ensure more personalized and effective care.

The Future of Injury Recovery Is Whole-Person Health

As the workers’ compensation landscape continues to evolve, successful recovery will increasingly depend on addressing the full spectrum of factors that influence health and healing. The MyMatrixx Wellness 360 program reflects our commitment to supporting patients through evidence-based, patient-centered programs that go beyond traditional pharmacy benefit management.

By combining clinical expertise, health coaching, personalized interventions, and innovative support programs, Wellness 360 helps patients navigate their recovery journey with greater confidence with more positive outcomes.
