Alex Wells Selected as Zurich U.S. CEO

September 17, 2026 - WorkCompWire

Schaumburg, IL – Zurich U.S. recently announced that Alex Wells has been selected to serve as CEO of Zurich U.S., subject to customary approvals. Wells will lead Zurich U.S. effective immediately.

Wells ascends to the U.S. leadership role following the departure of Sierra Signorelli. He previously served as President of Zurich U.S. Middle Market, Programs, Captives and Direct Markets, which together comprise the largest business within Zurich U.S. This role included serving on the Zurich U.S. Executive Committee.

Wells is a seasoned commercial insurance executive with over 25 years of experience. He has led Zurich U.S. Middle Market for the past six years. He earlier held senior leadership roles in commercial insurance for Chubb and ACE.

Since joining Zurich in 2020, he has guided Zurich’s Middle Market business to double-digit growth while expanding talent and capabilities in underwriting and risk engineering, strengthening local market presence, and advancing specialized risk solutions and broker tools.

His transition reflects the depth of Zurich’s talent and commitment to continuity.

“Alex has deep expertise in large global accounts and midmarket customers, wholesale casualty and specialty verticals, and he has managed different distribution models,” said Mario Greco, Group Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance Group. “He has a strong track record of delivering results, developing talent and helping teams perform at their best. His appointment positions us to build on the progress made in recent years.”

Greco added: “We thank Sierra for her contribution and commitment during her time with us and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Pending approvals of the CEO appointment, Wells will be based at Zurich U.S. headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

“I am honored by the opportunity to lead Zurich U.S.,” Wells said. “We are operating from a foundation of strength, supported by talented employees, strong customer and broker relationships, and a clear strategy. Our focus remains unchanged: delivering for customers, supporting our distribution partners and executing with discipline in the market.”

A new leader for U.S. Middle Market is expected to be announced soon.
