Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the National Safety Council’s announcement of the release of the inaugural edition of its MSD Solutions Index Pledge Community Report, which helps monitor progress along the journey of transforming workplace safety by reducing workplace musculoskeletal disorders, or MSDs.
Key findings from the results included that 8 in 10 MSD pledge members have some form of MSD prevention or ergonomics program in place, and 65% have methods for tracking MSD rates across their workplace. The NSC noted that no organization earned a perfect score on the MSD Solutions Index however, underscoring the complexity of MSDs and their prevention. However, 85% of organizations received overall results in the “advancing” or “proactive” categories. Nearly 85% of organizations also reported that psychosocial risk factors, like mental health, fatigue, lack of tracking, and lack of personnel and proper equipment or tools contribute to MSDs in their workplace.
