Columbus, OH – The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) recently announced that Ashwin Naran from Cleveland, Ohio had reimbursed the BWC over $42,000 in restitution following a felony conviction of workers’ compensation fraud.
Naran was the subject of an investigation by the BWC Special Investigations Department after being identified as possibly working as a sales associate for a jeweler while collecting BWC disability benefits.
Through the investigation, BWC’s Special Investigations Department discovered Naran was working and underreporting his income for multiple periods from 2019 through 2021. During this time, he was also collecting working wage loss disability benefits which he was not entitled.
On Sept. 26, 2023, Naran pleaded guilty to workers’ compensation fraud, a fifth-degree felony.
Restitution in the amount of $42,760.46 had been fully recouped and the judge ordered probation for one day and closed the case for time served.
