Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Summit’s release of its COMPInsiders Top Injuries in Retail report, which identifies the top five claims it sees in the retail industry.
Summit notes that work-related injuries are common in retail due to the variety of tasks performed and services provided. Although exposure is often preventable, claims among retail workers continue to rise. The report highlights the top five claims in retail based on lost time and medical only claims for Summit-managed insurers. From 2017-2022, Summit received more than 9,600 workers’ compensation claims in the retail industry, and 22% of those claims were caused by the top cause, strain. Other top causes included same level slips, trips or falls; cuts, punctures, scrapes or rubs; struck by incidents; and motorized vehicle accidents.
