Lakeland, FL – Summit, a regional provider of workers’ compensation insurance services, recently announced the release of its COMPInsiders® Top Injuries in Retail report identifying the top five claims it sees in the retail industry.
Retail workers are responsible for assisting customers, processing sales, stocking inventory, delivering products, as well as store setup and breakdown.
Work-related injuries are common in this industry due to the variety of tasks performed and services provided. Although exposure is often preventable, claims among retail workers continue to rise.
The report highlights the top five claims in retail based on lost time and medical only claims for Summit-managed insurers. From 2017 through 2022, Summit received more than 9,600 workers’ compensation claims in the retail industry, and 22% of those claims were caused by strain.
