Columbus, OH – The Ohio BWC recently announced that Cory Kovach pleaded guilty to one count of Workers’ Compensation Fraud for working as a self-employed landscaper and has been ordered to pay nearly $24,000 in restitution to the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).
Kovach was the subject of a BWC investigation in 2019 for hiding his work activity from BWC and continuing to collect BWC disability benefits. The investigation consisted of investigators interviewing customers and obtaining videos of Kovach performing landscaping and snowplowing services from Sept. 2019 to Sept. 2020.
On Feb. 23, 2023, Kovach pleaded guilty to one count of Workers’ Compensation Fraud, a fifth-degree felony. Kovach was ordered to pay restitution of $23,611.14 to the BWC and sentenced to five years of community control.
If Kovach violates the terms of his community control, he is subject to a sentence of one year in jail.
