Albuquerque, NM – The New Mexico Office of the Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) Nominating Committee announces the appointment of Alice Kane as Superintendent of Insurance.
OSI is committed to consumer protection and seeks to provide policyholders convenient access to reliable insurance products underwritten by dependable and financially sound companies.
“The Insurance Nominating Committee had many qualified applicants to fill the role of Superintendent of Insurance,” said Diane Denish, the Chair of the Insurance Nominating Committee. “Alice Kane’s wealth of leadership, insurance, and regulatory experience, along with a commitment to the well-being of consumers made her a strong candidate to lead the OSI.”
“I am honored to serve the people of New Mexico by advocating for consumers and providing essential information so that New Mexicans can make the most informed decision for themselves and their families,” said Kane. “As Superintendent of Insurance, I am committed to enforcing critical consumer protections while creating a vibrant marketplace that provides equal access to quality, affordable insurance. I look forward to hearing from New Mexicans on their most pressing insurance issues to help OSI continue to serve the community.”
Kane brings over 35 years of insurance experience to the role of Superintendent. She has led regulatory operations and served as general counsel for major companies to ensure that they are in compliance with state and federal laws. Her deep understanding of insurance regulation and markets will contribute to driving innovation and advancing OSI’s mission to ensure that New Mexicans are treated with fairness and honesty when it comes to matters of insurance.
As Superintendent of Insurance, Kane will play a pivotal role in OSI’s ongoing consumer education and agency strategic initiatives. OSI will ensure that insurance companies offer essential coverage, maintain reasonable rates, and are represented by qualified and trustworthy agents.
Superintendent Kane announced that Colin Baillio has been appointed as the Interim Deputy Superintendent of Insurance. Mr. Baillio has served at OSI for over three years and currently manages the agency’s health care affordability initiatives. Before working at OSI, he was a consumer advocate at Health Action New Mexico, where he fought for stronger consumer protections and affordable health coverage for New Mexicans. He was born and raised in Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico.
OSI regulates private health and life, auto, business, home, and title insurance in New Mexico. The Insurance Nominating Committee consists of nine members, four appointed by the Governor, four by the New Mexico Legislative Council, and the ninth, who serves as chair, appointed by the other eight committee members.
