Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features WCRI’s announcement of its upcoming webinar on its study highlighting the important design choices faced in adopting, reforming, and updating a workers’ compensation medical fee schedule.
Dr. Olesya Fomenko will discuss the study, Designing Workers’ Compensation Medical Fee Schedules, 2022, which covers how the 44 states with fee schedules and the District of Columbia have resolved these fee schedule design choices, and also includes a discussion of the substantial fee schedule changes for professional medical services since February 2019. Design factors covered included how high or low the fee schedule level should be set; how frequently fee schedules should be updated; whether fee schedules should be based on the relative value units of different professional medical services, or based on some other metric (e.g., historical charges or usual and customary charges); and more.
