Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the California WCIRB’s recent release of its annual “President’s Message” from President and CEO Bill Mudge.
This year’s message comes in the video form, featuring Mudge in conversation with Andrea Coleman, the WCIRB’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In the conversation Bill and Andrea discuss what makes California’s workers’ compensation system unique, including factors like its varied geography and differing system characteristics by region, claims duration, as claims in the state typically take longer to settle; cumulative trauma claims, which are described as mostly a California phenomenon; and frictional costs. They also cover the forces affecting California workers’ comp that the WCIRB is watching, including Jobs, Wages, Industry Sectors, COVID-19, Long COVID, and potential reforms.
