Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new Insights brief from NCCI on medical fee schedules that examines and compares the most relevant changes to reimbursement rules and rates made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in their 2023 update that will likely impact workers’ comp.
Key areas of focus include changes to CMS fee schedule rates, the data CMS relied on to develop those rates, and other potentially impactful changes to the fee schedules for three categories of medical services, which include Physicians; Facilities; and Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS). Notable items included that CMS implemented higher increases to payment rates for facility services and DMEPOS in 2023 relative to recent years, while conversely, 2023 payment rates for physician services decreased.
