San Francisco, CA -(BusinessWire)- Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies (BHHC), Workers Compensation Division recently announced the addition of Rick Fineman to the Senior Leadership team as the Vice President of Loss Control. In collaboration with Danny Engell, Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting and Data Analytics Officer, Rick will lead the company’s loss control strategy, advancing the organization’s growth in safety and risk management.
With decades of experience in insurance and occupational safety and health, Fineman brings his expertise to further enhance BHHC’s industry-leading loss control program, which is supported by a team of certified safety professionals with a diverse range of industry backgrounds. With the addition of Rick’s leadership in the insurance industry, BHHC will continue to strengthen its service offerings by providing consultative workplace safety education that emphasizes preventing accidents and injuries, thereby helping customers manage their workers compensation costs. This strategic hire reinforces BHHC’s position as an industry leader in workers compensation insurance products and services.

Before joining BHHC, and for over three decades, Rick held various management roles, including most recently Vice President & Manager, Risk Management Services for ICW Group, Safety Director for the Port of Tacoma, Risk Manager for a large industrial contractor, managing the industrial hygiene lab, Research to Reality Group, and regional Vice President Underwriting and Distribution and AVP, field loss control operations for Liberty Mutual.

Rick earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Washington, a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health from Central Washington University and completed graduate work in toxicology at the University of Arkansas. He holds several professional certifications, including Certified Safety Professional, Associate in Loss Control Management and Associate Risk Manager. Rick has presented at various state and national conferences, including the National Safety Council Safety Congress, and The American Society of Safety. Rick sits on several advisory boards including ANSI Code committees, MākuSafe® Wearable Technology Advisory Board, and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals test question development group. He resides in Southern California and will work out of the BHHC San Diego offices.
