Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Selective Insurance’s announcement of the launch of a new ergonomic risk assessment tool for policyholders that aims to identify high-risk body positions or movements that may lead to severe injuries and costly workers comp claims.
Selective noted that a study of its workers’ comp claims found that in 2021, workplace-related injuries were reported 18% earlier in employees’ tenure than in 2011, and strain-related injuries were the most common type of claims in the construction and manufacturing and wholesale segments. The new ergonomic safety solution, developed by TuMeke Ergonomics, helps employers promote workplace wellness by spotting potentially hazardous behaviors and implementing ergonomic changes, especially in labor-intensive industries. A smartphone can be used to record consenting employees completing tasks, and the AI software will analyze the footage, identify high-risk body positions and motions, and provide a comprehensive report with findings and suggestions to reduce musculoskeletal pain and disorder risks.
