WCRI Announces Conference Panel on Changes in the Workplace

February 20, 2023 - WorkCompWire

Cambridge, MA – The Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) recently announced a panel on “Changes in the Workplace” that will be held at its 2023 WCRI Issues & Research Conference, March 21-22 at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown in Phoenix, AZ. The conference theme is “Disruption, Resilience, and Evolution.”

“This is a really important topic for many in our audience—employers and workers alike,” said John Ruser, WCRI’s president and CEO. “COVID-19 disrupted where and how we work. With resilience, employers and workers did not miss a beat, adopting remote work and evolving to find new ways of getting work done. But, there are also challenges with remote work. Everyone wants to know where are we going and what challenges and opportunities lie ahead of us.”

Answering these important questions is a distinguished panel made up of Joan Vincenz, Managing Director – Operations Risk, United Airlines; Jenny M. Burke, Vice President, Impairment Practice, National Safety Council; Evelyn McGill, Executive Director, Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission; and Donna S. Edwards, President, Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO.

They will address questions such as the following:

  • What is the impact of hybrid/remote work on mental health and what can employers do to address it?
  • Will work from home change the mix of injuries or create any compensability issues? What can be done to mitigate remote work injuries?
  • Will changes in the workplace lead to changes in the workforce (e.g., more gig workers)?
  • Does remote work create an obstacle to knowledge transfer and what are some ways to overcome that?

The WCRI conference is a leading workers’ compensation forum. The two-day program highlights the Institute’s latest research findings while drawing upon the diverse perspectives of highly respected workers’ compensation experts and policymakers from across the country. A discounted, early-bird conference registration rate is available until Tuesday, February 21.
