Austin, TX – Texas Mutual recently announced that in order to help fortify businesses and strengthen the Texas economy, it has awarded over $3.5 million in grants to 48 organizations through its Request for Proposal (RFP) initiative focused on workforce development and safety training.
Texas nonprofits were invited to apply between August 15 and September 23, and after an extensive review process, Texas Mutual selected 48 organizations for their efforts in:
- Training the current and future skilled workforce in safe work practices, especially in industries or occupations at higher risk for workplace accidents
- Creating strong pathways for in-demand middle-skill jobs
- Upskilling and reskilling adult learners using earn-and-learn initiatives
As part of the review process, Texas Mutual trained 45 employee volunteers to review grant applications based on several criteria, including evaluating organizations for their work in upskilling, apprenticeships and safety training programs as well as their overall alignment with our commitment to building a stronger, safer Texas. Our community affairs team also focused on ensuring funding was distributed across the state and supported underserved communities.
This round of community funding was the second RFP initiative from Texas Mutual in 2022. In July, it awarded $3.2 million in grants to 48 organizations to support working families. With these two initiatives, we’ve delivered nearly $7 million to support Texas communities. Taking care of Texans is what we do, that’s why we’ve invested close to $50 million into our communities since 2016 and continue to use our resources to ensure meaningful change for current and future Texans.
