Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Sedgwick’s announcement that it has acquired ancillary medical management provider Orchid Medical.
Sedgwick noted that the acquisition represents an expansion of its managed care technology platforms and investment in the continued growth of its ancillary care network in the areas of surgical implant cost containment, prosthetics and orthotics, and physical medicine. The acquisition also dovetails with Sedgwick’s aim to offer employers a more holistic approach to caring for injured and ill workers by serving as a single point of service for durable medical equipment (DME), transportation, translation, home health, diagnostic imaging and other aspects of care on their road to recovery. CEO Paul Taylor and Orchid Medical’s 215 employees are also expected to join the Sedgwick team.
