Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new Insights brief from NCCI on medical fee schedules that examines and compares the most relevant changes to reimbursement rules and rates made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2021 and 2022 that will likely impact workers’ comp.
Key areas of focus included comparing the 2021 and 2022 CMS updates to reimbursement rules and rates, and getting insight on early effects of the 2021 changes based on data reported to NCCI for Q1-Q3 of 2021. The three categories of medical services include Physicians; Facilities; and Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS). Notable items included that the DMEPOS fee schedule for January 2022 increased the reimbursement for certain services by a significantly higher amount than observed in recent years.
