Austin, TX – Texas Mutual Insurance Company, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, is announcing its commitment of $300K in grant funding to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Texas Mutual is committed to the health and safety of all Texans and this investment will support the education of future frontline workers and ensure that workers who are injured on the job receive high-quality, specialized care.
“We are proud to support the Health Science Centers at UT Houston and UT Tyler, especially throughout this ongoing pandemic where the health care industry has been hit particularly hard,” said Jeremiah Bentley, vice president of marketing and community affairs at Texas Mutual. “These programs provide an excellent caliber of education and aiding them is crucial to strengthening our Texas workforce. This additional contribution will only further reinforce the standards these institutions set.”
The total grant amount will be split between the two institutions and distributed over the course of two years. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston will be using its funding to support the Occupational Medicine Residency Program and will be expanding its program with the addition of one resident.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will be using its funding internally to support and enhance the Occupational Medicine Residency Program.
As part of the support for these programs, both institutions will provide residents with quarterly didactics teaching sessions and participate in a one-day educational conference on the treatment of work-related musculoskeletal injuries and the Texas workers’ compensation system. Residents will also be invited to virtually participate in regularly scheduled company meetings related to evaluations of work-related injuries.
