Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap finishes off the short week with the release of WCRI’s CompScope Medical Benchmarks for North Carolina, which found that medical payments per claim with more than seven days of lost time were fairly stable from 2014-2019, with the average payment lower than the median of 18 states studied.
Other key findings included that hospital payments per inpatient episode grew 10% per year from 2017-2019 for claims at 12 months of experience. Hospital outpatient payments per claim grew 4% per year from 2017-2019 for claims at the 12-month maturity. Payments for most outpatient services increased, except for physical medicine, which did not change. Additional factors in the recent growth in medical payments per claim came as a result of facility payments for ambulatory surgery centers and hospital outpatient departments.
WorkCompWire will return on Monday.
