Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new analysis from CWCI that found COVID-19 claims in the California workers’ compensation system fell to the lowest level in a year in February.
The projected ultimate claim count for February came in at 4,533 cases, down nearly 90% from the record 43,158 claims projected for December. CWCI also noted that there has been little effect on claim notification times for non-COVID cases, as the average number of days from the injury date to employer notice, and from employer notice to claims administrator notice showed only marginal changes from a year earlier. Due to required testing, notification times for COVID-19 claims have consistently been longer than those for non-COVID-19 claims, though they have continued to improve.
