Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new edition of NCCI’s Quarterly Economics Briefing, which examines the state of the COVID-19 recession going into 2021, and what changes are likely remain in a new, post-COVID economy.
The Q4 2020 installment’s first report found that the economy recovered employment in every month from April-November 2020; but progress slowed to near zero in Q4, and the total number of unemployed increased modestly from November to December. The report also notes that year-end data indicates that 4/5 lost jobs are concentrated in service sectors characterized by high physical proximity and low essentiality. A second report on remote work before, during, and after the pandemic is also forthcoming.
