Launch of “The Transitions” Aims to Address Workers’ Comp Talent Crisis

January 20, 2021 - WorkCompWire

Atlanta, GA – A free national webinar on January 21 at 3:00 p.m. EST will officially launch the year-long effort by The Transitions to ignite proactive planning by the workers’ compensation industry as it stares down its greatest current threat – the generational change of talent.

The Transitions is a movement to inspire strategic thinking by workers’ compensation organizations and professionals about how to successfully manage and leverage the influx and outflux of talent over the coming decade. This group started as a session for the 2020 National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference and has since converted that one-time event into an ongoing collective effort to help the industry Create A Plan for this inevitable transition process.

The founding members of The Transitions are a multi-generational, purpose-driven group of industry veterans and emerging leaders that include:

  • Barry Bloom, Managing Principal, The bdb Group
  • Drew Cortese, Senior Manager, Claims Analytics Data Security & Financial Controls, United Airlines
  • Rachel Fikes, CXO and Director, Workers’ Compensation Benchmarking Study, Rising Medical Solutions
  • Claire Muselman, Workers’ Recovery Unit Director, Continental Western Group
  • Mark Pew, Senior Vice President of Product Development and Marketing, Preferred Medical
  • Marques Torbert, Chairman, Ametros
  • Melissa Wright, Director of Marketing, Ametros

The Transitions currently has plans for free interactive webinars through August to address how the workers’ compensation industry must reimagine itself in order to recruit and retain next generation talent. Topics will include redefining management style, influence, communication models, business processes, technology strategies, marketing methods and human resources. There will also be a mid-February webinar on mentoring to coincide with the launch of The Transitions mentor-protégé connection program.

Launching the movement’s educational track are two foundationally important webinars. The first is scheduled for January 21 at 3:00 p.m. EST, titled “The Transitions Kickoff – Igniting the Flame,” that will include all of the founders.
