Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the California WCIRB’s recent release of its 2020 Geo Study, which examines regional differences in claim characteristics across California, complete with an interactive map that allows viewing of key measures across regions.
Key findings from this year’s edition included that after controlling for regional differences in wages and industrial mix, indemnity claim frequency continued to be significantly higher in the Los Angeles Basin and significantly lower in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both medical-legal costs and paid allocated loss adjustment expenses were also significantly higher in the Bakersfield and LA Basin regions than the rest of the state. WCIRB also noted that the share of open indemnity claims has decreased substantially in all regions since 2013. A free webinar to review findings is scheduled for next Thursday.
