Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new analysis from CWCI that found as of November 2 there have been over 50,000 COVID-19 claims reported to the DWC so far this year, including 282 death claims.
CWCI noted that the newest figures translate to 1 out of every 9 California job injury claims reported for accident year 2020. Pacewise CWCI noted that after peaking at 14,453 in July, the number of claims began to dwindle, and numbers from September/October suggest a continued downtrend. Also of note was that denial rates for COVID-19 claims have stabilized within a narrow range of 28.7-31.3% from April through August, (denial data on Sep/Oct is still too fresh for full analysis). CWCI also looked at distribution by industry, finding heavy concentrations in a small number of fields.
