ASSP Enhances Its Popular Safety Podcast

November 25, 2020 - WorkCompWire

Park Ridge, IL – The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) today posted the 50th episode of its popular safety podcast series, which has been renamed and enhanced to include a broader range of occupational safety and health topics to keep industry professionals informed.

In its November installment, “The Case for Safety” discusses key workplace factors that can lead to suicide. The featured expert is Maggie Mortali, M.P.H., senior program director at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

ASSP’s safety podcast series debuted in September 2018 and is approaching 100,000 downloads. New episodes will now be posted monthly and feature practical content that goes beyond its previous focus on safety standards and technical publications.

“More than ever, ASSP supports the occupational safety and health community in finding ways to keep workers safe amidst new challenges,” said ASSP President Deborah Roy, M.P.H., RN, COHN-S, CSP, CIT, FASSP, FAAOHN. “Our environment can change rapidly and ASSP continues to be a valuable resource in providing helpful workplace safety information and insights.”

Roy will be the featured guest in the December podcast that will address the latest developments surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and what safety professionals need to know. ASSP’s new risk assessment technical report is expected to be the focus of the January podcast.

Recent podcasts have covered topics such as planning for a safety management systems audit, material hoist safety, trenching and excavation safety, and how ventilation can improve worker health.

The podcast episodes are free to listen to or download from the ASSP website. Listeners can also subscribe to “The Case for Safety” wherever they get their podcasts.
