Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new report from the National Safety Council that found 39 states did not go far enough to protect residents from COVID-19.
The NSC noted that despite COVID-19 claiming more lives than accidental drug overdoses, motor vehicle crashes and falls combined, an inconsistent approach has jeopardized safety – potentially for years to come – due to the pandemic’s impact on issues such as addiction, traffic and workplace safety. The report assessed states’ efforts based on the NSC’s SAFER framework, created to help businesses manage through the crisis. Only 12 states received an “on-track” rating from NSC; 10 states received an “off-track” rating, and 28 states and D.C. fell into the middle “lagging” category.
