WA Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference Going Virtual

September 11, 2020 - WorkCompWire

Tumwater, WA – Washington’s 69th annual Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference is going virtual.

The conference, which is usually held in person, will take place online Sept. 21 to 25 to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Recordings of most sessions will be available on demand for 30 days. Registration is open now.

“Safety and health training helps prevent injuries and saves lives,” said Rebecca Llewellyn, Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) conference manager.

“We offer something for every level of professional in their safety and health careers. This year it’s going to look and feel different, but we’ve built in many opportunities to bring folks together and connect.”

Conference workshops promote workplace safety and health. Sessions include special training on the impacts of COVID-19, ergonomics for working at home, fall protection, “Tools to Help Deal with Mental Health and Suicide Awareness in the Workplace,” and much more.

Most sessions last one hour, and many feature additional question-and-answer periods with presenters.

L&I and the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board (GISHAB) sponsor the conference.

Online pre-registration is $225 per person for the general conference. Students and apprentices get a discounted rate of $50. Register early because rates increase on Sept. 22.

Two separate, daylong pre-conference workshops will be held Sept. 21 for an additional fee, and require live attendance and participation. They are “Climate Change and Worker Health” and “Telecommunications Competent Person − Rule Overview.” Each costs $175.
