Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new research brief from NCCI that examines the effect of changes in fee schedules on hospital outpatient (HOP) payments and found that in response to fee schedule changes, prices paid for those changed by approximately 75%.
NCCI noted that hospital outpatient (HOP) payments are becoming an increasingly significant share of medical expenditures for WC claims – now accounting for around 20% of medical costs. Key findings from the report included that about 75% of the average change in maximum allowable reimbursements (MARs) for HOP services was realized as a change in prices paid, and although there was some variation across states, the 75% factor was an unbiased estimate for any jurisdiction included in the study.
