Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new analysis from Mitchell that examined emerging trends as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and found healthcare workers were the source of two-thirds of all related workers’ comp claims – more than 9x any other category.
Other key findings included claim increases for essential workers in the first half of the year in fields like healthcare, transportation and warehousing. Expectations are that the majority of COVID-19 claims will continue to come from the healthcare industry, though other industries may see increases as states change COVID-19-related guidelines, thus following a logical pattern – e.g. as restaurants and retail stores are allowed to open, the accommodation and food services and retail trade industries may see growth in COVID-19 claims.
