Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the DOL Office of Inspector General’s release of a new report from Phase 1 of its Pandemic Oversight Response Plan, which presents the results of its audit of the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs’ (OWCP) initial response to the pandemic.
Key findings included that most OWCP programs are experiencing or expecting delays and resource management issues as a result of increasing claims or social distancing mandates brought on by the pandemic. In response, the programs are tracking delays, providing guidance, extending deadlines, and taking additional actions as needed. OIG also made recommendations based on the audit, including watching for additional effects particularly for opioid populations who may be at riskwhile resources are reallocated.
