Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of a new whitepaper from One Call that explores the use of analytics and biopsychosocial approaches to help identify and better treat “At-Risk” injured workers.
The paper notes that at-risk injured workers are slow to recover and expensive to treat, with the top 5% of cases accounting for 25% of total PT costs. In the past cases were identified as problematic and at-risk only after treatment plans exceeded the initial guidelines, and by then, it was too late. From an analytical standpoint identifying cases involves identifying and locating triggers that may derail a case. Once identified, the biopsychosocial element comes in, as the care approach shifts toward one involving coaching, motivational interviewing and active listening, as well as extra engagement with caregivers.
