Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features a couple pieces of regulatory news, with California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara’s recently issued executive order adopting emergency workers’ comp regulations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new regulations mandate that insurers recompute premium charges for policyholders to reflect reduced risk of loss. Also in the news today is Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s signing of a new Executive Order that now makes individuals who work within the secured borders of a penal institution, including correctional officers, medical staff, and cafeteria staff who serve prisoners presumptively entitled to worker’s compensation if they suffer a personal injury as a result of COVID-19.
