Today’s issue of WorkCompRecapfeatures NCCI’s recent release of a new Insights brief that examines opioid prescribing for injured workers across different industries, with certain industry groups is significantly more likely to receive opioids.
Key findings included that in the contracting industry, the share of claims receiving opioids is greater (20%) when compared with all other industry groups combined (14%). Additionally, the quantities of opioids prescribed to injured workers are more than double the average prescribed to those in all other industry groups, coming in at a morphine milligram equivalent (MME) of 1070 vs 490. The report also notes however that opioid usage has actually declined across all industry groups including contracting during the time period studied.
