Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the release of the 12th edition of WCRI’s free Medical Price Index for Workers’ Compensation (MPI-WC), which is focused on providing stakeholders with a tool for monitoring changes in prices paid for medical professional services for injured workers in different states as well as the impact of fee schedule and network changes on price trends.
The Index tracks medical prices paid in 36 states from 2008 to 2019 for professional services billed by physicians, physical therapists, and chiropractors. Services fall into eight groups: evaluation and management, physical medicine, surgery, major and minor radiology, neurological testing, pain management injections, and emergency care. This edition also examines seven study states that had substantial changes (10% or more) in overall prices paid following major fee schedule changes.
