Boca Raton, FL – The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) will go virtual tomorrow with its Annual Issues Symposium event—AIS Virtual. Themed “A New Decade In Sight”, the event begins at 1:00 p.m. ET on May 12, 2020. More than 2,000 attendees are already registered to attend.
“AIS Virtual will offer actionable intelligence around the workers compensation industry’s most relevant issues, with a particular focus on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts,” said Bill Donnell, NCCI president and CEO.
NCCI’s AIS Virtual will include presentations from Donnell, NCCI Chief Actuary Donna Glenn, and Robert Hartwig, PhD, of the University of South Carolina. They will provide deep insight into the financial performance and state of the workers compensation industry, while thoroughly examining the effects of COVID-19 on the economy and the workers compensation system.
Donna Glenn, NCCI’s chief actuary, will outline the 2019 workers compensation financial results and highlight the COVID-19-related challenges facing the system through her State of the Line Report. Glenn’s vast experience and knowledge will help guide the industry into the next decade. “While this may be a unique moment for the workers compensation industry, the system remains financially strong and is well positioned to face this current state of uncertainty,” she says.
Robert Hartwig, PhD, professor at the University of South Carolina, says that 2020 is shaping up to be the most momentous year for insurance since the 9/11 attacks in 2001, and will address the major economic challenges facing the workers compensation system from the COVID-19 pandemic. Hartwig noted this will make it a challenging time for the workers compensation industry as premiums drop and questions about coverage emerge. Hartwig will also cover how the economy, labor markets, and workers compensation payroll exposures will begin a rebound in the second half of 2020.
The main program will be followed by a virtual Meet the Experts session, along with the release of new research.
AIS Virtual is free and open to the public. Registration details and the full AIS Agenda are available on ncci.com.
