Austin, TX – The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) recently recognized five Lauren Concrete plants for their exemplary workplace safety programs. Plants in Round Rock, Liberty Hill, Bastrop, Llano, and Mason won Lone Star Safety Awards for their proven safety management systems and low rates of work-related injuries and illnesses.
“This makes 18 of our 23 plants that have received Lone Star Safety Awards,” said Kurt Holman, Lauren Concrete’s vice president of safety and environment. “Our commitment to safety for our workers, customers, and community is critical to the success of our company. When everyone leaves work or a job site safe, that’s when we’re successful.”
Lauren Conrete, a ready-mix concrete company, has between two and 83 employees at each of its plants throughout West, Central, and East Texas. The Lone Star award allows the plants to serve as safety models for other employers.
“We want to continually recognize companies, like Lauren Concrete, who work to maintain a healthy work environment and actively involve employees in their safety programs,” Stoddard said. “I encourage everyone who knows a Texas company with an excellent safety program to nominate it for a Lone Star Safety Award.”
Lauren Concrete has partnered with DWC’s Occupational Safety and Health Consultation (OSHCON) Program for 10 years. OSHCON offers Texas companies free on-site consultation services to help businesses comply with OSHA regulations, create effective safety programs, and maintain a healthy workplace.
To qualify for a Lone Star Safety Award, employers must maintain a proven safety program with injury rates below the national average for the previous three years and have no work-related deaths within the prior 12 months. Companies receiving this award may be asked to give presentations at industry associations, mentor other organizations, serve on panels for safety and health issues, or participate in the Texas Workers’ Compensation Conference.
