Austin, TX – The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) recently recognized WPT Power Corporation (WPT) for its exemplary workplace safety programs by renewing its Lone Star Safety Award.
WPT, which operates in the mechanical power transmission industry, received its first Lone Star Safety Award in October 2017 for outstanding safety management systems and low incidence rates of work-related injuries and illnesses. WPT also received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program designation by the state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in September 2019.
“The WPT management team has created a strong safety culture for its 38 employees at its Wichita Falls facility,” said Chris D’Amura, DWC’s director of workplace safety. “They continually maintain a healthy working environment and actively involve employees in their safety programs.”
The DWC Lone Star Safety Award recognizes Texas employers with exemplary safety and health workplace programs. Recipients must maintain a proven safety program with injury incidence rates below the national average for the last three years and no work-related fatalities within the prior 12 months. The recognition also certifies Texas employers to provide peer review safety programs.
“If you know a company with an excellent safety program,” D’Amura continued, “I encourage you to nominate it for the Lone Star Safety Award.”
