August 22, 2019 - WorkCompWire

Downers Grove, IL – Coventry recently released part three of its Annual Drug Trends Series.

In part three of the series Coventry looks at opioids, which continue to decrease in proportion to overall scripts and costs, with favorable trends in Morphine Equivalent Dose (MED), duration of use, and access to guideline-supported measures including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and overdose rescue medications.

Highlights from this section include:

  • Opioid script cost fell by nearly 2%
  • The number of injured workers using opioids has declined for 5 consecutive years
  • High MED prescriptions had their most significant decrease in 4 years

Each part in the series is accompanied by a deeper dive into various related topics to address specific trends highlighted in the drug trend series. Some of the latest deeper dives include video blogs examining Aggregate Trends for the Top 10 Therapeutic Drug Classes in 2018, and Aggregate Top Therapeutic Classes by Age of Claim in 2018
