WorkCompRecap: New Drug Report!

July 25, 2019 - WorkCompWire

Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Coventry’s release of the second portion of its 2018 First Script Drug Trends Series Report, which is now offered in a great new format with more concise infographics that allow for easier examination of trends and recommendations for each section accompanied by “deeper dive” posts.

Part two of the series provides analysis on the trends experienced within Coventry’s combined in- and out-of-network channels, which saw 73.5% of total utilization and 78.4% of cost represented by in-network prescriptions (retail, mail-order and extended network). Other key highlights included that 8 of the top 10 therapeutic classes experienced decreases in utilization and cost per claim; Opioids specifically also decreased over 2 percentage points from 2017, accounting for 22.1% of all scripts and 20.9% of all costs; and compounds fell out of the top 10 classes in both utilization and cost.
