Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the TDI-DWC Research and Evaluation Group’s recent release of its report on Employer Participation in the Texas Workers’ Compensation System.
Texas is the only state that allows private-sector employers the option of not purchasing workers’ comp insurance, becoming “non-subscribers”. Key findings from the 2018 edition included that overall, the employer subscription rate fell, from 78% in 2016 to 72% in 2018, but those two years remain the highest subscription rates since 1993, and the percentage of private-sector employees working for subscribers remained stable at 82%. In 2018, non-subscription rates increased among small employers, and remained stable among large employers.
