Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Coventry’s release of the third portion of its 2017 First Script Drug Trends Report Series, which will continue to present traditional, managed, and unmanaged views, but is now offered in a great new format with more concise pieces that allow for easier examination of trends and recommendations for each section and view.
Part 3 of the series focuses on opioids and compound drugs, which are frequently discussed in workers’ comp, and examines their performance in both managed and unmanaged contexts, and their performance in aggregate. Highlights from the report included that opioid utilization continued to trend downward for the managed population, both on a per-claim basis and for the percentage of injured workers utilizing opioids, while cost per claim also declined substantially.
