Today’s issue of WorkCompRecapfeatures the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s (LWC) announcement that along with partner agencies it recently conducted unannounced site inspections as the commission ramps up efforts to combat the practice of misclassifying workers.
In the recent sweep construction sites in the New Orleans area were inspected by unemployment insurance tax auditors and workers’ comp authorities from LWC, as well as other agency representatives from GAME ON, the Government Against Misclassified Employees Operational Network, a statewide, multi-agency task force formed last year to fight worker misclassification. In the past year, LWC’s Office of Workers’ Compensation has also made numerous referrals to the State Attorney General’s office, including suspected employer fraud totaling $130,945.
