Atlanta, GA – Builders Insurance Group recently announced the appointment of J. Stephen Berry to assume the role of Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary from Craig Edwards who will retire in July. In this position, Mr. Berry will be the primary legal advisor for the Company. His responsibilities will include ensuring compliance regarding business ethics, information security, privacy policies, human resources policies, insurance department regulation and playing an integral role in the strategic direction of the Company.
“Stephen brings 21 years of leadership and legal expertise to our Company, and we are very pleased to welcome him to our team,” said Patrick Mitchell, President and Chief Executive Office for Builders Insurance Group. “His extensive experience in insurance law and litigation from coverage dispute resolution to contract negotiations makes him an important asset as we strengthen our ability to provide outstanding products and services to our agents and policyholders.

Prior to joining Builders Insurance Group, Mr. Berry was a Partner at Dentons US, where he led the insurance team of the Atlanta office for the world’s largest law firm. He has litigated coverage and bad faith disputes throughout the nation; was named to Best Lawyers in America and Georgia Superlawyers; and authored Georgia Property and Liability Insurance Law (West, 2012). Mr. Berry holds a BA from the University of Richmond and received a Masters of Arts in European History and his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia.
