Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Coventry’s release of the first portion of its 2017 First Script Drug Trends Series, which presents traditional, managed, and unmanaged views, and continues to be offered in a great new format with more concise pieces that allow for easier examination of trends and recommendations for each section and view.
Part 1 of the series focuses on the traditional view, and is geared toward benchmarking to traditional industry reports as well as First Script’s historical reporting. Key highlights from the traditional view included a decrease in overall prescription cost per claim of 6.8% from 2016 to 2017, driven by a 6.7% decline in usage; an opioid utilization drop of 10.7%; a decrease in Average Morphine Equivalent Dose (MED) per script of 6.6%; and a 52.7% drop in compound drug utilization.
