Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features the news that Indiana SB 369, which adopts an evidence-based workers compensation drug formulary has been passed by the state’s General Assembly, and now heads to Governor Eric Holcomb.
Industry group PCI is urging the governor to sign the bill, noting that evidence-based pharmaceutical formularies can help to ensure timely delivery of appropriate medical care to injured workers to achieve optimum health and return-to-work outcomes. Under SB 369, Indiana would prohibit workers’ comp and occupational disease compensation reimbursement for drugs specified as “not recommended” in the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) Workers’ Compensation Drug Formulary. PCI also noted the Texas formulary as an example of effectively providing injured workers with access to the most appropriate medications, while protecting them from non-recommended drugs like high-dosage opioids and benzodiazepines.
