State of New York Selects ReedGroup to Support Development of a Formulary for Injured Workers

February 14, 2018 - WorkCompWire

Westminster, CO – ReedGroup® recently announced that the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board has selected ReedGroup, through an RFP process, to support the development of a custom prescription drug formulary for injured workers.

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board formulary is designed to be consistent with the State’s existing Medical Treatment Guidelines (MTGs), which are similar to the evidence-based guidelines developed by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and published by ReedGroup.

ReedGroup’s drug formulary aligns with its ACOEM treatment guidelines to establish effective treatment protocols for work-related injuries and illnesses. By selecting ReedGroup’s ACOEM-based formulary as a driver of the state’s approved drug list, the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board is helping lead a national movement toward implementing a drug formulary with explicit and transparent ties to evidence-based treatment guidelines.

“ReedGroup is honored to develop a custom formulary for the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board to help ensure better health outcomes for all New York workers,” said Joe Guerriero, Senior Vice President of MDGuidelines® at ReedGroup. “Our ACOEM-based formulary will arm health providers with the tools necessary to improve health outcomes.”

New York State’s adoption of ReedGroup’s formulary comes on the heels of a similar adoption by the State of California in 2017.

“The Workers’ Compensation Board is quickly and successfully implementing the 2017 Reform Law calling for a formulary,” The New York Workers’ Compensation Board Chair Clarissa M. Rodriguez said. “We look forward to continuing improvements in the workers’ compensation system with an evidence-based formulary for medications, which will ensure injured workers receive the highest standards of care.”
