Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap finishes off the short week with WCRI’s release of the Florida edition of its CompScope™ Medical Benchmarks, which examines medical payments, prices, and utilization in Florida and compared them with 17 other states over a period from 2010 through 2015.
Key findings from the study included that medical payments per workers’ comp claim in the state remained stable in 2015 following moderate growth from 2010-2014. WCRI noted that several medical fee schedule changes were implemented after 2014, and the study provides a view to how hospital payments per claim have changed with experience up to 15 months after 2015 fee schedule changes. Hospital outpatient payments per service for example decreased by 3% after rapid growth in prior years. Inpatient payments per episode grew 13% in 2015, also following a fee schedule update. The report also makes a nod to the Castellanos and Westphal decisions and their potential future ramifications.
