SFM Foundation Ladies’ Night Out Brings in More Than $30,000 for Scholarship Fund

November 21, 2017 - WorkCompWire

Bloomington, MN – The SFM Foundation hosted its sixth annual Ladies’ Night Out fundraiser on Friday, November 3. The Foundation raised more than $30,000 for scholarships that night, marking the highest total ever for this event.

“The process of bringing this evening together has proven a very rewarding experience,” said event organizer Ashley Punches. “The funds we raise at this event go a long way to help make higher education affordable for some very deserving families.”

The SFM Foundation provides scholarships to students whose parents were killed or seriously injured in workplace accidents while working for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa employers. Since its inception in 2008, the Foundation has committed a total of $1.4 million toward scholarships benefiting 129 students.

One of the highlights of the evening was a moving speech by 2016 scholarship recipient Haley Rinzel. She related the story of how her father narrowly survived injuries he sustained while working as a police officer over ten years ago. Rinzel credited her SFM Foundation scholarship for easing the hardships on her family that continue to this day. Currently a sophomore at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Rinzel is studying for a career in nonprofit work.

“Our sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who attended, sponsored and donated to the event,” Punches said. “Thanks to your generous support, students like Haley and their families have one less thing weighing on their minds.”
