Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features some interesting insights from One Call Care Management’s Zack Craft, who recently gave a presentation for case managers on how wearable and smart technologies are revolutionizing the the management of workplace injuries, care delivery, and facilitating rehabilitation in workers’ comp.
Craft covered the use and benefits of wearables throughout various phases of the workers’ compensation process: safety and injury prevention, first report of injury, development of a treatment and rehabilitation plan, avoiding re-injury, and managing long-term catastrophic injuries. Craft noted that catastrophic injury management is an area of significant promise, and beyond exoskeletons that are already helping paralyzed patients stand and walk again, the field is seeing expansion into new applications for bariatric, geriatric and orthopedic cases, where scaled down exoskeletons could be used in rehabbing hip, knee, and back issues. Also of interest are developments in virtual reality products, which are gaining traction, and could assist injured workers in managing chronic pain.
