Today’s issue of WorkCompRecap features Coventry’s release of the second portion of its 2016 First Script Drug Trends Series, which will continue to present traditional, managed, and unmanaged views, but is now offered in a great new format with more concise pieces that allow for easier examination of trends and recommendations for each section and view.
Part 2 of the series focuses on the managed and unmanaged views, with “managed” data adding that of the traditional view (retail + mail order) and prescriptions from Coventry’s extended network. The unmanaged data represents out-of-network prescriptions that are received and processed through medical bill review. Highlights from this edition include that generic utilization increased by one percentage point for each population, while opioid usage continues to decrease (-1.1 percentage points for managed, -2.1 percentage points for unmanaged).
